PROGRAMS
NEOBHC’s strength is its ability to work across multiple sectors using unified approaches regarding education, advocacy, and empowerment, utilizing partnerships to meet the unique needs of the African Americans who live, work, play, and pray in Northeast Ohio. Our goal is to examine how the social, structural, and environmental determinants of health contribute to chronic disease disparities in the African-American community.
NEOBHC holds the following guiding principles:
Health Equity and Health Care Disparities Elimination
Capacity Building
Community Empowerment
Social Determinants of Health
Determinants of Health are the broad range of personal, social, economic, and environmental factors that influence individual and population health. These factors can be categorized into five broad areas: genetics, behavior, environmental and physical influences, medical care, and social factors. Understanding these determinants is crucial for improving overall health and reducing health disparities.
